Essentials designer fabric scissor holders - so practical!

 

When placed together, these fabric scissor holders look like a flower, don't they? I made a dozen of these holders - perfect for Stampin' Up!'s paper snips - for my latest order (thanks, Rhonda!). They were all made using the Essentials designer fabric, Petal Cone die and Fun Flowers die for the Big Shot, SU! fabric adhesive roll, and with antique brads.

 

I don't know about you, but when I have a class, people typically put the snips black plastic guard on the wrong way. I've also had these guards go missing, so a fabric snips holder not only protects the ends from going through a bag or purse (if you need to carry them with you), but also look stylish. Gotta love that!

Fabric goody bag for my American Ink team achievers

I love running Stampin' Up! fat squares through the Big Shot in the Fun Flowers die. It makes it quick and easy to cut out a bunch of flowers at one time (I did 8). I used all three patterns of fat squares in the box to make the fabric flower shown here, adding a couple of punched flowers so it would hold this shape, then used white baker's twine and a Cajun Craze button to hold it together.

Here's the goody bag each woman found at her place at lunch Saturday. All of the bags were made with the Comfort Cafe fabric. The largest flower is adhered to the front of the goody bag with a Jumbo Sticky Round (item 127852, 12 per package for $4.95). Each bag measured approximately 6" x 9" before being sewn. I used either the ruffled Pool Party ribbon or the Midnight Muse stitched ribbon, depending on the goody bag fabric.

I want to thank SU! demo Laura Milligan for this great idea. I saw her goody bag and fabric flowers at Convention 2012 during the "I am Savvy" class. I love it!

Summer Smooches Criss Cross pocket card for a birthday

This Summer Smooches Criss Cross card features Summer Smooches dsp and fabric, along with Mixed Bunch and the Blossom Punch (and 1/2" circle punch for the inside of the flower). My club members are making this card this month. The Criss Cross card uses a full 8-1/2" x 11" piece of Tempting Turquoise card stock to make the pocket for the insert.

My first Scallop Square (aka Rag) Quilt!

I love Stampin' Up!'s Spice Cake fabric, and have been wanting to make a simple quilt with it for some time. Yesterday I finally found a few hours to diecut the scallop squares, add batting and sew them together.

Here's why it's called a Rag Quilt. This is the back side:

You see all of the scallop edges on this side. I started with four packages of Spice Cake fabric. I didn't iron or wash it first, though you may choose to. I ran the fabric through the Big Shot on the Clear Scallop Square die.

It'll cut 8 layers at a time. I got 15 squares out of each fat square (or 45 squares per box of fabric).

I sandwiched batting between two squares and sewed it in an X to hold it all together.

Then I sewed the squares into rows, and the rows into the quilt. Four packages of fabric gives you a baby blanket-sized quilt (9 squares x 10 squares). I added a few more rows this morning, and may still add to it. When I've used up all the Spice Cake fabric I have (4 more boxes!), I'll add a seam binding all the way around. Then I'll wash it to make it feel all soft and squishy. I know I'm a hack quilter, but it was the one way I could think of that I could have a quilt the same day I started it! I made my first quilt last year with my neighbor's help. She's a professional who assisted while I created a twin-bed sized blanket. Then I took it down the hill to get the all-over stitching. So what do you think?

New button jars, matching fabric and designer paper for WOYWW...

I was on a mission to find curved jelly jars to hold my big designer buttons from Stampin' Up!. My family went out and about to a couple of stores last weekend and finally found the jars at Fred Meyer. Only $5 for four of them! They were a bargain. And they're already full. I traced the lid onto some Springtime Vintage fabric, cut it out and adhered it to the lid of the jar. Then I added a knot of 5/8" Marina Mist satin ribbon. You can see the other patterns in the fabric pack to the left of the jar.

Why am I showing you my button jar and my desk? Well, it's for Julia's What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday (WOYWW). You can poke your head into rooms all over the world. It's great fun!

Now back to my desk. You can see the card I made with some of the Springtime Vintage dsp. I followed a sketch (the card and sketch are shown in the post below). The stamp set I used for the card is shown on the left side of the photo. It's a hostess set I earned for free called Fast & Fabulous. Also on my desk - some Love Impressions Rub-Ons I've been using to make valentines, and some older watercolor crayons. Kim sews a Deck the Halls fabric pillow...

Kim and I exchanged gifts yesterday. I can't believe she made this gorgeous pillow! Who knew she even sews? This photo doesn't do the pillow justice. The crochet trim looks amazing on it, as do the buttons on each corner. I love the vintage look and feels of the fabrics. Do you see the scallop squares Kim cut with the Big Shot? Thanks, Kim! I love, love, love this.
