Weekly Deals
Wow! I can't believe I missed a week on my blog. I've been doing lots of canning and baking, since I visited an awesomely inexpensive fruit stand with my friend and my niece last week.
I made dilly beans with the green beans. They won't be ready to eat for another week. I swapped a neighbor a jar of these beans for her homemade salsa. It was terrific salsa, with fresh corn and black beans. I think I got the better deal!
The tomatoes have been eaten. The corn was blanched and frozen for two separate meals (one on the cob and the other just the kernels). I still have the green peppers and a couple of cucumbers, though my daughter and I enjoyed cucumber sandwiches today (always refreshing!).
My kids love homemade applesauce and go through it quickly. I do have some leftover apples, even after making a huge apple crisp! A friend of mine gave us some peaches, so I'd made a peach crumble the week before. This same friend also let my daughter and I pick raspberries at his house. We got enough for two batches of jam - a staple in our house during the school year, when the kids take peanut butter and jam sandwiches for lunch every day. I shared a couple of jars with my friend to say "thank you."
It's also a busy time for my Lions Club. I enlisted my hubby's help with highway clean-up this morning, and am working on birthday calendar advertisers. I love community service. It's such a great feeling to make my little corner of the world a better place. I wish I could've taken my kids, but there's a minimum age requirement of 16. They're not quite there yet.
So you have TODAY - that's it - to take advantage of discounts on these items. Then come tomorrow, there will be different products offered at a discount. You may order any of these things through my Stampin' Up! website - http://therubberroom.stampinup.net.
I've got my Card Clubs starting up this month. The first is this Wednesday at 6 p.m., and the second club is meeting Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. Each club is welcoming new members. If you're not sure a club is for you, you're welcome to come and check it out. I just need an email or text in advance, so I can have enough card stock prepped. If you just come and make the cards, the cost is only $5. If you decide to join the club, the only commitment is a $30 order each month. In return, you get free catalogs, hostess benefits, and special incentives and patterns from me.
Also, I've got a 20-card all-occasion class coming up on Saturday, August 30. It starts at 11 a.m. All clubs and classes are at my Poulsbo studio. I hope to see you soon!
These are only the veggies I bought! |

refrigerator sweet pickles |
I bought a box of pickling cucumbers. I've never worked with them before. I found an easy fridge sweet pickle recipe online and tried it. These are already gone! It's easy to eat a jar of pickles as part of dinner, or with a potato salad - which I made yesterday. The funky color liquid is because I used ground mustard instead of mustard seed with the turmeric, vinegar and salt. Tastes the same. Different look for the juice, but that's it. I'll be making another batch of sweet pickles tonight. It's also a busy time for my Lions Club.
