Santa petal cone favor and the new SU! trimmer

 

How cute is that Santa face? It's so much fun making people and animals and other things with punches. This Santa uses these punches:  largest scallop circle punch (beard), bird builder (mustache), cupcake builder (eyes and nose), and the oval scallop (face and hat rim).

 

 

The ball on Santa's hat is from the Itty Bitty Punch pack, and Santa's body is made using the Petal Cone Die for the Big Shot (two petal cones). Finally, the sentiment is from Tags til Christmas, and it's punched out with the scallop square punch. This was a project at my American Ink Rewards event Sunday. I saw one of these on Pinterest by SU! demo Kay Sha, and then saw my blogging buddy Debbie Henderson with one on her blog. There are slight variations among the three. My Santa was filled with kisses!

Petal cone birthday card with a cherry on top...



The Petal Cone Die for the Big Shot makes an easy ice cream cone card. I've seen this idea on several blogs, so I'm not sure who originally came up with the idea. I ran the Early Espresso card stock through the Square Lattice embossing folder, then used Elegant Soiree dsp on the Petal Cone Die for the ice cream, Very Vanilla card stock for the banner (also on the die), and the 1/2-inch circle punch in Cherry Cobbler for the cherry. The birthday greeting is from the Curly Cute stamp set.

I learned a couple of things when I used the Petal Cone die for the Big Shot - 1) you need to run two pieces of card stock through the die, one at a time, so you get the nice score lines with the crease pad on top instead of a cutting pad; and 2) creating a petal cone project for a class is a lot of work!

I cut the Sweet Stitches designer paper down to smaller rectangles so I could get the most possible out of each 12" x 12" sheet. It takes four scalloped pieces for each cone if you put it together like I did before.

What's really cool? The fact that the new Sweet Stitches fabric designer brads match the dsp! I took a closer photo to show that below. The white strip is also on the die. I sponged around it with Melon Mambo (same color as the petal cone) and stamped a phrase from Teeny, Tiny Wishes on it. The last step was adding the 5/8" Whisper White satin ribbon for a handle.
